Therefore, CCS technology may become a feasible method to achieve large-scale carbon reduction in the shipping industry. Actively promoting the application of CCS technology on ships is of great significance for energy conservation and emission reduction in the shipping industry.

Carbon Capture and Separation

The capture of CO in CCS technology is mainly divided into three types: pre-combustion carbon capture, oxygen-enriched combustion carbon capture and post-combustion carbon capture. Carbon capture link of ship CCS technology adopts carbon capture after combustion. The carbon capture method after combustion mainly includes absorption method, membrane separation method and adsorption method. The membrane separation method uses the membrane made of polymeric polymeric material to separate different gases with different permeability. Polymeric polymeric materials have low selectivity to acid gases such as CO, and therefore are not suitable for the separation of mixed gases containing a large amount of CO. Since the gas emitted from the combustion fuel of the ship contains more CO2, the membrane separation method should not be used for CO capture and separation on the ship. The adsorption method is to use solid adsorbent to adsorb CO in the tail gas of the ship, and then release CO under certain conditions. Due to the large displacement of the tail gas of the ship and the limited adsorption capacity of the adsorbent, in order to ensure that the CO in the tail gas of the ship can be completely adsorbed, it is generally necessary to install multiple adsorption towers, with high investment cost, and it is not applicable to ships.

The absorption method is divided into physical absorption and chemical absorption!. Compared with the above mentioned two methods, the chemical absorption method has higher absorption efficiency, simpler reaction conditions and more convenient operation. Therefore, the chemical absorption method is mostly used in the industry at present. 
 

Capture principle of chemisorption

It mainly generates amine carbonate through reaction of various types of amine and carbon dioxide. Amine carbonate decomposes into amine and carbon dioxide again under certain temperature. Such chemical principle is used to capture and collect carbon dioxide. Due to different types of amine, it is also divided into primary amine, secondary amine and tertiary amine, which are mainly distinguished in absorption efficiency and absorption cost of carbon dioxide; The core process points of the whole CO2 capture and absorption mainly include the following two points: one is the absorber, the other is the regenerator; Amine liquid absorbs carbon dioxide in the absorber. After absorbing carbon dioxide, the amine liquid turns into rich liquid which flows through the regenerator and is heated at a certain temperature in the regenerator. When the rich amine liquid releases carbon dioxide in the regenerator and is absorbed and compressed by the compressor for concentration, the whole process completes the cycle of carbon dioxide absorption and regeneration.
